Court Appointed Special Advocates, or "CASA", provides a powerful voice for abused and neglected children across Lane County through dedicated community volunteers.

Why is CASA needed? Last year, just under 1,000 children spent at least one night in foster care due to abuse or neglect by their caregivers. Every day, judges decide these children's futures in a court system that is too overburdened to focus adequately on the individual needs of each child.

How does CASA help? CASA volunteers provide prevention and early intervention support and advocacy for the most vulnerable children across Lane County until they are placed in safe, permanent homes. CASA volunteers work to move children through the child welfare and court systems as quickly and safely as possible, to prevent future abuse.

When children have a CASA volunteer, they are more likely to have access to the resources they need to be successful (healthcare, therapy, etc), perform better in school, and report higher levels of hope. Children and youth with the support of a volunteer advocate move into a safe, stable home more quickly than those without a CASA.

Did you know the CASA program operates under a highly effective and efficient model?  For every 2.5 paid staff in our program, we equip and train 35 volunteers to provide support and advocacy for 70 or more children and youth!  Our volunteer service hours are equivalent to around $400,000 annually.

Thank you for supporting our community's most vulnerable children!
